This is why I LURVE Creature Seattle

Seattle has never been the promised land for advertising. As beautiful and inspiring as the city is, there was never a Madison Avenue golden era. But some Seattle agencies, albeit a few, are making a name for themselves. My personal favorite is Creature. Watch above and you can see why. Right up my alley.

Is it bad that I really like this commercial?

I think the strategy for this spot is great. It addresses a controversial subject in a tactful and somewhat artistic way.

Book Review
The Trendmaster’s Guide - Robyn Waters
I only bought this book because Borders in Santa Monica was going out of business and everything was 40% off, but I was pleasantly surprised. While other reviews may say it’s full of fluff that’s a lot of what trend spotting is about. Staying inspired and looking at things differently, not numbers. I don’t care what the Scarbourough report says it’s also important to look at trends with intuition and look at situations beyond the numbers. Great quick read, proud to have it in my library. Highly recommended.

Hunting for jobs makes me wish I were a child again and only had to worry about beating Duke Nuke’em. Those were the days.

Remember this Pepsi Max spot from the superbowl last year?

Looks like these people need some of that.

Does design influence performance?
Several teams who have had their mascots redesigned have shown outstanding improvements. Darker colors, meaner faces…why has this impacted performance?
I have theorized that design subconsciously influences people to do certain things, especially in the consumer realm. Could it really influence behavior to this level?

I saw this billboard on my way home from the Grove in LA today. I actually really like this new Pepsi campaign. Not because it connects to me, or because it’s good. I really only like it because of it’s design element. I’m not a fan of the commercials but I LOVE the outdoor. It’s so simple.

My friend Scott said that looking at that billboard would never make him buy a Pepsi. Well, it’s not supposed to. Pepsi and Coke are both companies that have an extremely loyal fan base. Switching is not usually done and it would take a lot more than a billboard and a redesigned logo to do that. This is about people who already drink Pepsi, drinking more. It’s saying Pepsi is still cool, we are still about your generation and we still get you, now go ahead and keep on drinking.
Maybe I like it because I don’t mind either carbonated beverage, who knows.

I love finding the next amazingly bad ideas people have to put on my blog. This takes the cake. Extreme dog grooming. These people must be a bit crazy but I have to admit this is mesmerizing.

I saw this gas station live and in person today on Robertson and was blown away. Great package design. Great Advertising.
